LANTERNWALK: Further Scouting of the Forward Position...

Sirius Community Center, as it appeared in early May of 2015

ANOTHER TRIP TO SIRIUS COMMUNITY IN SHUTESBURY, MA...

Saturday, August 8, 2015 - Community Work Day at Sirius: I arrived in time for the afternoon part of the Work Day and participated with Bruce, Aaron, Dan, & Devon in prep of mounds and logs for inoculating with spawned oyster mushrooms spores. Mound building started with layering wood chips, adding spawned spores, then fermented straw, more spores, sawdust and corrugated cardboard, which was all then hosed liberally with water for at least 10 minutes. Oak logs were drilled and plugged with spawned mushroom spores, and then sealed with hot wax over the holes and also on cut portions of the logs.

After working ceased around 5:30 pm, I contributed value exchange ($8.00) toward the Community evening meal and interacted with community members plus participants of the Immersion Program, Session 3 that started a week ago. Ray took her turn today cooking in the ROTA meals program at Sirius and during this downtime between afternoon work and coming together at meal, I met Samantha, two women named Anna, Louie, & also Molly, who went upstairs in the Octagon to play piano music. During the afternoon I spoke with Bruce, who ran "Chewie the Chipper" in the Spring when I helped prepare wood chips for the road maintenance on Sirius property, and also spoke with Linda, both of whom are original founding members of the community who spent time in Findhorn Community, located in Scotland before they came to Shutesbury, Massachusetts with Gordon & Corrinne to purchase the property in 1978 and establish Sirius Community in 1979. I spent the night at the home of John Sprague across Baker Rd. about a half-mile from Sirius, so I could see the room I plan to rent upon completion of the Immersion Program, Session 4 in early October...

I met with John and viewed the second floor room of his home and then made a deposit of the 1st month's rent on this room in preparation for my October arrival to be his house mate as I continue to plug into activities at Sirius Community and seek work in the local area for building value exchange resources...
