Dr. Paul Leon Masters’ Weekly Mystical Insights: August 26th...

Personal Ego vs. Universal Identity

The battle within humans rages on. It’s the battle between the personal ego and one’s true Universal Identity. Whatever state of consciousness is winning, the battle for supremacy and control of the body, mind, and soul is dictating how people’s lives are turning out, both within themselves and in their outer life, which for the most part is a mirror—a reflection of the consciousness within.

Most people today fall into an “in-between” state of consciousness; that is, while the personal ego is catered to, the Universal Identity, or God, is given some measure of control. Even these people who do turn over some degree of power to God may be so steeped in traditional religious dogma that a real sense of Universal Identity is lost in the mental shuffle.

Therefore, whatever focus is on God is split between a God of love on one hand, and an image of a vengeful God on the other. Such theology washes out the good, or love, in most people’s minds, due to their acceptance of the hateful and wrathful. The only spiritual concept that can be positively effective in your life, then, is one that emphasizes—as Christ did—your oneness of identity with the Universal Identity, or God.

Christ said, “The Father and I are one.” He also said, “All of you are equal unto me.” These two statements tied together express the real meaning of the words, “Know the truth and the truth shall set you free.”

The truth here is that there is a portion of God’s Universal Mind within the nucleus or innermost center of your unconscious mind. This center of mind or consciousness within you is your Absolute or Universal Identity. Your Universal Identity is the ultimate creating and life-sustaining Presence or Identity within you. It is a Presence that is unlimited in knowledge, power, and above all, love.

The personal ego in you is no more than a composite of your personal and educational background, both of which are limited because of the very nature from which they originate—an unevolved, neurotic world limited in its knowledge by its time and place in history.

In the Bible, there is this warning: “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” And again, it tells us, “You cannot serve two masters.” The two masters referred to are your personal ego consciousness and the Universal Mind-Consciousness of God. The choice you make in what is ruling or controlling your mind is the most important choice of your life!

Make the wrong choice—your personal ego—and your life will never be as good as it could have been. Make a halfhearted choice and you will get halfhearted results. Truthfully, the choice has to be all, or nothing of any consequence will give real satisfaction to your innermost being—no matter what you seem to be accomplishing in a worldly or material sense.

The Universal Identity or Universal Part of your mind must be given total and complete control of your mind, body, and soul. Christ emphasized this when he said, “Seek ye first the Kingdom of Heaven”—meaning your inner, higher consciousness containing your Universal Identity—“and all things shall be added unto you.”

What he said was that if inwardly—in your own inner consciousness—you connect with the Universal, the Universal will provide you with the wisdom, insight, creativity, love, and will to accomplish far more in all major areas associated with human life. Note the words, “He who loseth himself”—meaning personal ego consciousness—“for my sake, shall find himself”—meaning your Universal Identity.

The only time a person ruled by the personal ego is successful is when a little of their real Universal Identity manages to break through to their conscious mind to give them some insight about what to do to be successful. However, because the personal ego is in charge, even though a person achieves success, the success is shallow, as the personal ego possesses traits of deceit, manipulation, and other negative characteristics. If you give up personal ego and let the Universal, or God, rule your identity, you can be successful without giving away your soul in the process.

The God part of your mind possesses all knowledge as to what you can do to have your financial and material needs met. In the Bible it states, “Your Father knoweth what you have need of before you ask.” As God is the Absolute or Ultimate Life of your life, God knows exactly what needs to be done to take care of your financial and material needs.

Even more importantly, God knows how these needs may be met according to your soul’s purpose in life. This means that you are guided so that your financial and material blessings come to you in a way that is in tune with and in accord with your soul’s purpose in life. This could therefore dictate what kind of work you were meant to do throughout your life, and, if needed, the changes required in work or career for the achievement of your soul’s purpose.

A person may always have problems and challenges to surmount. Yet, even in the midst of these difficulties, the individual may be quite fulfilled and content. Fulfillment and contentment are present when your very soul feels at peace with itself. This means that in spite of any difficulties in your outer physical life, your soul is fulfilled and content because your Universal Identity—under God’s direction—is fulfilling the purpose of your soul for this lifetime incarnation.
