Seeks Wisdom of the Source....
The Light shines from within the Soul; the view from the Summit which puts life into its proper perspective. This vantage point is accessed via looking to God who dwells within us; the infinite Creator being the reservoir of all the answers which the Seeker pursues. Each one of us is symbolized by the Lantern image; God's Light of inner awareness being the Candle Flame. Wisdom is the transcendental interpretation of knowledge as illuminated by the Light shining within one's Soul. All barriers of the material World are beneath the Cosmic Consciousness of the Hermit who has already traveled his Path of Quest. His search has led him to the Summit of his own perfection. Now, from this great height he can see 360 degrees without obscuration. His Lantern is held high as an inspiration to all who aspire to attain the Wisdom which he has come to realize during the process of his own Soul journey. The isolation and abstinence image sometimes given to the Hermit is one of the past; a glimpse of his travels through the physical and emotional wasteland where the misrepresentations of life as seen through the perception of the Physical Plane have been experienced and eventually transcended. This Archetype passed through a period of solitude and alienation during this walk through the proverbial "Valley of the Shadow of Death" that could have driven him Mad had it not been for the Light in his Lantern penetrating the Darkness and illuminating his Soul thus granting him hope of deliverance. The Hermit has indeed been carried through this initiatory Journey via his unwavering Faith in the Universal Source who Teaches and Guides all of us internally. The Lantern which he carries symbolizes his inner Vision provided via his "Third Eye" (Candle) which grants this Archetypal traveler a keen sense of Spiritual insight. Invokes Mind over Matter....
Power in Harmony. The True Balance in Nature; Spirit over Flesh, Mind over Matter. Strength over material Weakness inherent in the Body. The power of Mastery of the Elements as directed by the Spirit within; symbolized by the Infinity insignia above the Woman's head. She is keenly aware of the Psychic as well as Material realms, for the knowledge of Occult or Metaphysical Science (as understood by the Magician) is within her. She would be unable to physically subdue the Lion, symbolic of the physical nature of consciousness impregnating matter, without Divine assistance guiding her. The trials of material existence would be too great for her to oppose. Yet, the image presented shows the Lion already subdued and the Woman is in control of the situation. The wreath and garland of flowers adorning her represents the harmonic Balance of the creative process; another indication that the Spirit of Universal Mind guides her actions. All power is accessed from within, and it can therefore be seen that She and the Lion are One. Her Animal Nature has been tamed and she is able to walk through Life victorious. The senses of sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch are directed by the sixth sense, intuition, thus resulting in perfect Harmony. This is the True Meaning of Strength or Fortitude. 4) The Future - This card represents what could be a likely turn of events, given that nothing changes. These are usually short term happenings, and doesn’t represent the final resolution of these events.
Queen of Swords - Absence
The figure seated on the throne represents widowhood, i.e. having enjoyed the fullness of relationship and intimate pleasures with a life mate companion for many years, yet now she has been left behind and is alone. Sadness is shown in the image, whereas her left hand is raised and the facial expression appears to project, "What good is this realm that surrounds me, now that the one whom I loved so dearly had departed?" This image in a session could indicate a woman who is suffering loneliness, sadness, a true sense of loss, misfortune, etc. The person may indeed be very perceptive and possess intuitive powers resulting from her perspective, which could assist the client. Sterility, or the condition of not having the ability to alter her present situation may be indicated. Negative influences of the Queen of Swords could be narrow-mindedness, malice, deceit, or basically the presence of a woman with evil intent, or possibly a person of ill temperament. Note the orientation of the past regarding the image of this archetype. The figure is facing a barren landscape as she sits on the throne with sword in right hand, hilt resting on the arm of said throne, yet behind her is is a scene depicting a river and shade trees. She chooses to remember the Earth's beauty as part of the days when she was one with her other half, yet the barren landscape before her, colored by her present sense of loss, is all that she is able to perceive in her blindness.

Five of Wands - Contention
A situation of contention, whereas opposition is being faced, whether involving other people, a particular problem, or a set of circumstances. Anywhere in life the conscious force of an individual quests to overcome external forces to achieve a specific outcome, a struggle or competition occurs and this card is relevant. The figures are locked in this struggle. The game which the figures play, or this "sham" fight, does not necessarily represent a mock situation. The strife, turmoil, competition, struggle, etc. most often is a very real experience in the client's life. The interaction with other archetypes during a session will shed light on the specifics of the state of contention indicated by this image. Any form of opposition may fall under the symbolism of the Five of Wands, and the client must always remember that the power to overcome any obstacle in life comes from the Source within us. Metaphysically, we are all channels of the infinite wisdom of the God-Mind inside of our souls, and one may tap into this energy for seeking resolution of the conflict in which one is engaged. Nothing is predestined, i.e. "cast in stone," and a change in focus, whether it is a mental attitude or change in direction, can alter the situation, and thus in a subsequent session the configuration of images would reflect such improvement. The power of the Universal Mind of God within us is greater than that of anything, or anyone, opposing us at any given time.

The Quest for Enlightenment....
Traveler setting forth on the journey of life - young, innocent, unknowing of pitfalls and temptations thereof. The sun, i.e. knowledge of his origin as a ray of the infinite source (God) manifest in human form to work through the physical plane, is behind him. He may know it is there but is unaware of its real meaning so therefore he is walking away from it. Before him is the precipice, trap of the material world, awaiting his step over the edge and fall into imbalance. But, he sees it not, as his eyes are upon the beautiful vista; illusion caused by inexperience and blindness regarding Universal Laws. The dog at his heels is bounding and appears to be excited about the journey and equally unaware of the pitfall ahead as he is in a leaping mode and following his master's footsteps. The traveler is well-dressed, meaning that internally and externally he has everything he needs to take on this journey. He carries a purse on a stick representing his pack of provisions; resources or equivalent means to see his way through the travels ahead. Also, he holds a white rose signifying the eternal Life Principle which will bring him successfully through the trials he encounters during the course of his journey to the ultimate fulfillment of his destiny. Religious Doctrine: External Symbols of internal Reality. The only way to see beyond the outward form of the Hierophant's teachings is to change one's perspective, i.e. Inner Truth being the hidden cause behind manifestation in outward reality. This Archetypal Figure represents the external Form and function of the internal Mysteries. Also known as The Pope, he stands for established religious practice, ritual, and fundamental principles thereof. The Triple Cross in his right hand is an outward symbol of The Christ; Crucifixion of Body, Soul, and Spirit to be resurrected as Body, Soul, and Spirit in union with God. The left hand signifies the distinction between revealed and concealed Mysteries. For those who are in the world and have yet to realize the Hermetic principle of "As Above, So Below," the major religions and basic, or fundamental Teachings serve as a signpost for entry through the Gate of personal commitment to be instructed by God via internal Illumination. The Crossed Keys are indicative of the Written Teachings, i.e. Scriptures, and ritual Ceremonies of religious practice and Doctrine intersecting with the intuitive Guidance of the Universal Source from the center of one's Being. One key is external and one key is internal; one being the function of the other. The Hierophant stands as a barrier to those who are yet unable to comprehend the True creative Life principles and therefore the External Teaching is all that they receive. However, if they can pass beyond the Form via choice to join the Spirit of Illumination radiating from within their Souls then the High Priestess is waiting to reveal the heretofore hidden Mysteries inscribed in the Scroll she is holding in reserve for those who are truly ready. Seven of Swords - Attempt
The figure is attempting to accomplish a task, but is incomplete in his effort. The method employed is uncertain, as the way he carries the swords is precarious, i.e. by the blades in awkward symmetry whereas they could slip and cut him at any time. Two swords are left behind him, as he is having enough difficulty trying to balance the five. His face shows confidence, like unto a juggler, but it may well be short-lived as he appears to be putting on a display, i.e. showing off his talents, signified by the encampment to his rear in the background. Here is indicated partial success, or hope that efforts planned will come to fruition. However, the real possibility of failure exists as a result of how the task is being attempted, and the mental state of the doer as well. Performing a task physically yet supported only partially by faith, i.e. clouded by doubts, will create circumstances which could upset the process and ultimately confound the effort. The "silver lining" of this is the good advice which could evolve from such an experience, i.e. counsel of others who observed the futile attempt and might lead one to have the right frame of mind, use the proper tools, etc. when undertaking the task next time. It is very important to discern the difference between wise action and folly. Universal laws must be obeyed in order for success to be complete. Contradictory mindsets doom even valliant attempts to failure. One must understand that positive thinking, union with divine purpose, and unwavering faith in the power within us all is required for success. Then, when undertaking a task, it will be done correctly.

Three of Cups - Plenty
The three maidens depicted in this archetype symbolize a great abundance, whereas the participants experience times of plenty, i.e. the physical and emotional pleasure identified with a fruitful harvest and the rewards thereof. There is a sense of celebration, whereas fulfillment is indicated. In a session, the Three of Cups shown in positive representation is a very good archetype. The client has thus come to the resolution of a problem, the conclusion of a struggle or labor - i.e. the harvest, either literal or symbolic. This could be a satisfactory result regarding efforts expended. Being "full of life" and experiencing the fertility thereof is another. A positive aspect of this image is hospitality; freely sharing the bounty of one's own personal harvest with others can be indicated. Love, kindness, merriment, the good things in life, , and sensuality are also aspects. The imbalanced side of this archetype, as revealed in an adverse interaction with other images, brings forth a tendency for excess, i.e. the overabundance of pleasures, where human sensuality could express itself in the form of an orgy. Things become superfluous. There is a loss of luster or importance, i.e. prestige. Delays can be quite apparent. and there is a definite lack of appreciation. The "horn of plenty" aspect of the Three of Cups must thus be taken in a balanced perspective, whereas providence does not spoil or obscure reality of the truth regarding the Source of all creation; God. Failure to remember this important fact brings excess and imbalanced perspective, along with the misuse of God's bounty and waste thereof.

King of Wands - Honesty
This is generally a positive image when it is considered in a counseling session. This archetype represents the quality of honesty. A person who is conscientious, mature in the wisdom of life, and also friendly in nature. He is sympathetic and his educational background, through the experiential process of life-learning, enables him to share the fruits of his wisdom with others. He is devoted and known by his fatherly image. His appearance in a counseling session may signify some good news concerning other people and/or an inheritance in the near future. This image is considered to be favorable. The King of Wands is prosperous in his own right, and therefore is a good example for monetary management. His honesty proves that his acquisition of this material wealth was done according to "The Golden Rule." Should this image be representative of an individual in the life of the client, the person is usually married and may be considered to be a gentleman in how he functions socially. He is generous in his nature and so does not hesitate to give aid when it is needed by another. He is active in all of his positive qualities and is a person upon whom the Client may rely when it comes to matters of honesty, sympathy, devotion, prosperity, generosity, etc. He sets a good example.
